Building this single sloped roof shed was an excellent learning experience. preplanning was essential to the build. the shed style allowed more windows near the high wall roofline which adds a lot of light. the greater roof slope sheds snow and water easily too. i presently have ample space for storage and no squeak or bounce to the floor.. You can use common rafters on any shed roof, but they make the most sense when constructing a gable roof or lean to-type shed roof where they can sit on or attach to top plates of a wall. lean-to rafters then connect to a ledger board against a wall of another shed or house.. Whether you build your own trusses or order them from the lumberyard, building a roof with trusses is much easier than framing a roof one rafter at a time. as a general rule when learning how to build a shed roof, you'll need one truss every 2 ft. if you build your own, the cost will be about half this amount..
