Luv the color, luv the wood planks, and will definitely use this idea on my fireplace. our tv also sits above our fireplace; we enjoy watching both simultaneously. comfy and cozy! i've notice you know a lot of builder's terminology. :) reply delete. " adding some ship lap above the fireplace added big impact! i couldn't be happier with the result." "raise your hand if you love joanna gaines and her love of shiplap." "fire place with wood planks" "i've been so excited to share this project with you! adding some ship lap above the fireplace added big impact!. While that my be the code for a wood-burning fireplace, i would investigate the code for vented and unvented gas inserts. im fairly sure theyre different. i have a vented gas coal in my br and unvented in the lr change over from coal and wood..
Step 6 - using a table saw, measure + cut the reclaimed wood pieces to fit onto the front of the fireplace. secure to the frame using a nail gun. make sure to alternate the seams of the wood. you will want to use pieces of wood that are the same width all they way across each row.. We didnt add any cement backer board over the bottom, metal part of the fireplace. we just added thinset right on top of it and placed our stone. the cement board is flush with the firebox so the stones lay nice and flat over the crease where the cement board meets the metal.. I have been wanting to do a wood plank mantel makeover for a while. i have always felt it would really change the focal point in my living room. it was so easy, i should have done it sooner. whether to call this shiplap, faux shiplap, paneling, or wood planks was the hardest part of this project. start with the v-groove panel wood boards..
