I have a measured drawing for a simple bookcase and the goal is to make all the pieces for the bookcase out of a single sheet of 4'x8', 3/4" thick plywood (except for the back which will be 1/4" ply).. No calculator can tell how much waste will be on each run plywood. that is dependent on the lay out and where it ends with the plywood. sometimes there is no waste such as on a run 32? long. it will take four sheets. a run 31? long will also take four sheets with a 12? piece left a remainder.. I'm doing a job for someone involving building up some bespoke cabinetry from sheets of 18mm mdf. i have aprox 100 pieces to cut from aprox 11 panels and am trying to find some free software to calculate how to cut each board in the most efficient way.. Had a little learning curve at first, but realized you want to calculate lengths on one dimension at a time, (for ex. put in all cuts on 2x4s only, and available stock to come up with lengths to buy), or cuts and available stock on a "area" (for ex. plywood sheets of certain size to but for all cuts from plywood needed).. I often get asked how i make my layout or cutting diagrams in sketchup. the simple answer is that i just manually make my own. there is a cutlist plugin for sketchup but i find it to be incredibly.
