Building this single sloped roof shed was an excellent learning experience. preplanning was essential to the build. the shed style allowed more windows near the high wall roofline which adds a lot of light. the greater roof slope sheds snow and water easily too. i presently have ample space for storage and no squeak or bounce to the floor.. Pent – this creates a single slanting roof surface, and is most commonly used when the shed roof frame is designed to be an addition to the main home rather than a standalone structure. gable – this style, also known as the peaked gable or the pitched roof, is by far the most popular and most ubiquitous.. Gambrel roof. a gambrel shed roof involves significantly more angle cuts than a gable roof but provides more storage space in the attic. it’s much easier to make your own trusses than to build the rafter system, or even purchase ready-made trusses..

Whether you build your own trusses or order them from the lumberyard, building a roof with trusses is much easier than framing a roof one rafter at a time. as a general rule when learning how to build a shed roof, you'll need one truss every 2 ft. if you build your own, the cost will be about half this amount.. Now that the walls are rigid from the structural sheathing we're going to tackle the framing the roof. we're going to use 2x8 lumber to make the roof frame. you'll see how a speed square and hand.
